Spend enough time in the UK and you'll discover some very strange sounding names of food. Their names will confuse you and you'll find yourself thinking what could it be??
Below are a few examples:-
Bubble and squeak - It's a combination of mashed potatoes and vegetables (traditionally including cabbage) which are mixed together and fried. It's a great way to use up food from a previous meal /'leftovers'.

Toad in the hole - This could be very confusing. The 'toads' are actually sausages and they're cooked in a 'batter' mixture. Batter is a mix of flour, eggs and milk. You can also use this mixture to make pancakes. The dish is then cooked in the oven.

Faggots - These are a large, tasty meatballs, made traditionally from minced meat, 'offal', 'breadcrumbs' and herbs. They are cooked in the oven and traditionally served with mashed potatoes and 'gravy'. Gravy is a sauce made from the juices of cooked meat and thickened with flour.

Pork scratchings - These are a snack, usually sold in packets in pubs. Basically they are fried pieces of pig skin!! An ideal snack to go with a pint of beer!

Pork pie - Pork pies are made from chopped pork coated in pork jelly, before being wrapped in a 'pastry' and baked. They are usually eaten cold and are often eaten as part of a salad.

So there you have it. Five examples of traditional English 'grub', which have unusual names. Maybe you'll get the chance to try them some day.
Until next time........
