I first talked about idioms back in November last year, but I thought it would be a great topic to return to.....as I love a good idiom!

So here we go, another selection of idioms to try out.

So far, so good.

We use this to express satisfaction with how a situation is progressing.

"How's the new job going"?

"So far, so good. I'm really enjoying it."

Don't give up your day job

Used in a humorous way, to tell someone that they aren't very talented at a particular activity.

"What do you think of my singing"?

"All I can say is don't give up your day job!"

Easy does it

Used to tell someone to do something slowly and carefully.

"Easy does it. Those boxes have glasses inside".

It's not rocket science!

Used to tell someone that a task isn't difficult to do or understand.

"Driving car isn't rocket science". It's actually very easy."

Go the extra mile

Used to describe someone who made more effort than was expected/required.

"The staff at the hotel really went the extra mile, when I lost my wallet. They were so helpful".

Pull yourself together

This means to become calm and behave normally again after being angry/upset.

"Just pull yourself together! Okay, you've lost your job, but it's not the end of the world!

Ring a bell

Said when someone hears something, eg. some information, which sounds vaguely familiar.

"Do you know John Wilson?"

"I don't think so, although the name does ring a bell."

So there you are, part 2 of idioms. I really hope you get the opportunity to use some of them.

Until next time......
