If you're a fan of American tv or films you will have come across some differences in vocabulary between 'us' Brits #nativespeaker and our friends 'across the pond'!

Imagine learning a bunch of new words and being very pleased with yourself, only to be told........'oh, but Americans use different words!' It gets particularly confusing with words like chips, gas and pants, which have totally different meanings in the US.

Below are a few more words......the British English is first.

car park/parking lot

torch/flashlight

bonnet/hood

chips/French fries

crisps/potato chips

pants/trousers

trainers/sneakers

aubergine/eggplant

lift/elevator

film/movie

bum bag/fanny pack

petrol/gas

dummy/pacifier

football/soccer

tights/pantyhose

wardrobe/closet

sweets/candy

fringe/bangs

bill/check

See what I mean!! So beware, depending on where you're learning and who is teaching you #nativeway, be prepared for a little confusion......particularly when talking about pants!!#englishlessons
