An Anglo/French Affair

It seems that the English have in fact had a long love affair with the French.....well, the French language anyway. The English language is just littered with words and expressions 'borrowed' from our neighbours across The Channel....7,000 and counting!
I have to admit.....I do have a weakness for the language, not that I can speak it, despite my French teacher's best attempts to convince me otherwise at school, many years ago.
I still enjoy the moments when words such as 'genre', 'aubergine' and 'cliché' pop up in my English lessons at Native Way. It's one of the things that make the English language such a joy to teach as a native speaker. The variety, the constant surprises with pronunciation and our love of the 'silent letter'.
So whether you're a 'bachelor', 'brunette', 'chauffeur' or 'connoisseur', don't be surprised, as you continue your English learning, to meet some French 'en route'!
